Three Scrapbook Layouts - One Vibe! May Monthly Sketch Pack
May's Monthly Sketch Pack is here with another scrapbook layout idea that's been right-sized for three different album Creative Memories Album formats — 12" x 12", 8" x 8" and the Scrap Journal (6.75" x 10")!
Each month, I start with one overall layout idea and adapt it to work beautifully in all three sizes. Rather than simply converting the measurements mathematically, I adjust the proportions and placement of the design elements so each sketch feels balanced on the page size it was created for.
That means you can choose the album size you prefer, grab the corresponding sketch and start creating — no math or guesswork required!
This month's sketch has a fun geometric design created with angled sections of patterned paper along the top and bottom edges, and a strong horizontal photo band through the center. Although all three versions share those same basic design elements, you'll see that the proportions change quite a bit from one format to another.
If you'd like to see how the layouts come together, watch the video below where I walk you through the May Monthly Sketch Pack and create layouts in all three album sizes.
Now let's take a closer look at each finished layout!
May 12" x 12" Sketch Pack Layout
For my 12" x 12" version, I used the sketch to scrapbook some very special graduation photos! The black center section creates a strong backdrop for the photos, while the angled patterned papers around the outside draw your eye inward toward the story.
I especially like how much flexibility there is in that large center band. I was able to vary the sizes and orientations of my photos rather than making them all identical, and there was still lots of room for a title, embellishments and a little journaling.
It's a great example of why I always consider the sketch a starting point rather than a set of rules. Once you understand the basic structure, you can adjust the photo sizes and embellishment placement to suit the story you're actually scrapbooking.
May 8" x 8" Sketch Pack Layout
The 8" x 8" version really shows how the same basic idea can work on a much smaller canvas.
Here I've simplified the design to accommodate six photos across the center while keeping those angled patterned-paper sections around the outer edges, but by matting two of the photos, I've been able to maintain the look of having various sizes. The woodgrain and oars patterned papers, blue photo mats and lake themed embellishments give this version a completely different personality than the grad layout above, but you can still clearly see its relationship to the original layout idea.
And that's exactly the point of the Monthly Sketch Packs — same idea, right-sized for the album you're working in!
May Scrap Journal / 6.75" x 10" Sketch Pack Layout
The Scrap Journal is always the most interesting format to adapt because its pages are taller and narrower than either of the square formats. For this version, the angled patterned-paper sections have been adjusted to work with those proportions, and I included four vertical photos of the same size.
I love how the striped and yellow paper patterns completely change the feel of this layout version. With the additional of the orange tonal paper to mat the photos, it become a colorful layout for some everyday photo memories in my Scrap Journal!
