August Sketch Pack: One Sketch - Three Sizes!
The August Monthly Sketch Pack is here - with another scrapbook sketch adapted for all three Creative Memories album sizes!
If you're new to my Monthly Sketch Packs, each month I start with one scrapbook layout idea and adapt it to work in 12" x 12", 8" x 8" and 6.75" x 10" Scrap Journal pages. Rather than simply shrinking all the measurements, I adjust the proportions and individual elements so the overall design works well in each format.
That means you can choose the album size YOU like to work in and let me do the math for you - yay!
This month's sketch is a great example of just how different the same basic design can look depending on the papers, colors and embellishments you choose: the 12" x 12" layout done with School Years is structured and graphic, the 8" x 8" layout with Hydrangea Haven is soft and pretty, and the Scrap Journal layout made with Weathered Indigo has that richer vintage/heritage feeling. I love them all!

August 12" x 12" Sketch Pack Layout
For the traditional 12" x 12" version, I used the School Years collection and I love how the plaid and corkboard papers give this layout a classic school bulletin-board feel!
This version has room for six photos - including two 3.5" x 5.5" photos, two 5.5" x 3.5" photos and two 3.5" square accent photos. There's lots of room for documenting everything from the first and last days of school to classroom memories, awards, activities and all those everyday school moments we want to remember.
In the video I was contemplating using the notebook edge border stickers, but when I assembled the layout I decided to punch some similar borders from the same Dark Green cardstock I used for the square photo mats and the photo corners. (*Note that I used the Notebook edge BMC from Old Co. and not the newer CM BMC, but both will give you that fun notebook edge style!)
And while I've obviously given this one a school theme, remember that the sketch itself isn't themed at all. Change the papers and embellishments and it could work for just about any story!
August 8" x 8" Sketch Pack Layout
Next up is the 8" x 8" version, created with the beautiful Hydrangea Haven collection. It's the same sketch concept, but scaled down for the 8" x 8" page and made with a very different collection so it has a completely different personality! It's such a good reminder that a sketch is simply a starting point. Your choice of products is what gives it its personality!
Because we're working with a smaller square page, I've adjusted the photo sizes and proportions while keeping the same overall structure. This version still has room for six photos but if you want to use full size 4" x 6" or 6" x 4" photos instead of the smaller one, they should fit on the mats with no adjustment needed!
I love the softer feeling of this layout - the hydrangea paper, pale green plaid, periwinkle photo mats and simple floral embellishments make it feel completely different from the 12" x 12" School Years version. And you'll note that I ended up punching the Double Rick Rack borders from the same green paper but using only one border on each page since there was so little space for a bigger border!
August 6.75" x 10" Scrap Journal Sketch Pack Layout
And finally, here's our 6.75" x 10" Scrap Journal version, created with the Weathered Indigo collection. Once again - same sketch, but an entirely different look!
The Scrap Journal always requires a little more adaptation because its pages are taller and narrower than the square album formats. Rather than trying to squeeze the square design into that space, I've adjusted the photo sizes and proportions so we can keep the same overall visual flow.
This version has room for six photos too - four 4" x 3" photos plus two smaller 2" x 2" accent photos, including two smaller square accent photos that are perfect for those extra little detail shots we don't always know what to do with - but you could probably squeeze a 3" x 2" or 2" x 3" photo into those spaces if 2" x 2" is a little too small!
I especially love the combination of the plaid and caramel papers plus Navy cardstock. The Square Chain BMC punched from Navy cardstock adds to the classic masculine feel of the plaid, while the more delicate floral stickers add some softness!
